UsageRole(s)AffiliationDescriptionEditDimensionsEdit
The Procursator-class was similar in appearance to the Imperial-class Star Destroyer. It was slightly shorter, at 1200 meters in length.[1]
Offensive and defensive systemsEdit
The class was armed with three prominent axial gun batteries, and eleven other smaller guns across the ship.[3]
PropulsionEdit
The Procursator-class was built with a reactor dome that jutted out on the ventral side of the vessel and covered with protective armor, similar to other Imperial warships. The design was propelled by three thrusters.[2]
Bridge towerEdit
The T-shaped bridge tower was similar to the command tower on other Imperial Star Destroyer designs, like the Imperial-class. Much like the T-shaped tower on the contemporary Victory-class, it was smaller in scale than the modular KDY tower on the Imperial.[3][1]
HistoryEdit
The class was in service by 3 ABY, when CaptainFirmus Piett and AdmiralKendal Ozzel observed three Procursator-class Star Destroyers that were part of a high-mobility fleet. This fleet rendezvoused with Death Squadron at some point prior to the Battle of Hoth.[3] At another point, a ship of this class underwent repairs and refurbishment.[4]
Years later, during the reign of the New Republic, one of these Star Destroyers was seen in formation with a Bellator-class dreadnought and several Imperial-class Star Destroyers with Republic markings.[3]
During the rise of the Dark Empire, two Procursators escorted the Allegiance at the Battle of Calamari in 10 ABY. The three ships were assaulted by a New Republic task force and destroyed.[2] Around the same time, at least one Procursator was seen flying alongside a Bellator-class dreadnought among the Byss Defense Fleet.[5]
Behind the scenesEdit
This design originated as a fanon vessel made by Ansel Hsiao, based on a ship from Dark Empire 3: The Battle for Calamari, which was cataloged by Curtis Saxton as 'anonymous star destroyer #2' on his fansite.[6] The name chosen by the artist for its class is the Latin word for 'skirmisher/forward-runner'.[7]
When approached by Lucas Licensing to provide artwork for The Essential Guide to Warfare, Hsiao submitted his own designs in addition to new models, along with their names. The names were recorded in LFL's Holocron continuity database, according to the artist,[8] later confirmed by Warfare author, Jason Fry.[1]
According to Hsiao, the ship appeared not in one of his own pictures for the book, but was used in another artist's painting.[9] He also designed it from spare parts left over from the Bellator-class dreadnought to see how quickly he could design and build a Star Destroyer. He completed the ship over a weekend, citing its design as being similar to a little 'War Emergency Programme-esque no-frills ship'.[10]
The design can be seen in two paintings, both by Tommy Lee Edwards. The latter of which uses a picture from Hsiao's personal gallery as a background, where the ship appears, albeit blurred, as well as another ship of the same class being obscured slightly by a TIE Advance X1, as well as a third above an Imperial-class Star Destroyer, which itself is above and to the right of the aforementioned X1, although significantly farther away from the others.[11][12] The Hsiao picture in question was named 'Strategic Reserve'.[12]

Notes and referencesEdit
The Procursator-class was a ship that fell between the Victory-class and the Imperial-class. It was a medium sized warship with a length of 1.200 meters.
Specifications
The Procursator had three large Star Destroyer engines, similar to those employed by other Star Destroyers and an armament consisting of 11 weapon emplacements. Furthermore it had three large axial turrets being placed the one after the other on the ridge of the ship. It is unknown wether it had any starfighter and/or vehicle complement, but with the ship's lack of hangars on it's exterior it is believed that it was a fire support ship and an escort, rather than a multi-purpose fighter carrier (unlike most Star Destroyers). It resembled an Imperial-class vessel although without hangars being seen, it was more like other hangarless ships like the Tector-class and the Allegiance-class.
History
Several Procursators were used by Captain Firmus Piett and Fleet Admiral Kendal Ozzel, sometime prior to the Battle of Hoth in 3 ABY. They were part of a high-mobility fleet that rendezvoused with the Death Squadron. It is also known that a Procursator underwent repairs at that point.
Another group of Procursators was later seen, during the reign of the New Republic, to escort some other Star Destroyers. Some time after that when the Dark Empire, under the ressurected Emperor Palpatine, gained power, many Procursators were used in the fight with the New Republic. Most notably one of them escorted an Allegiance-class Battlecruiser and was destroyed later on. At least one Procursator was escorting a Bellator-class Dreadnought, being part of the Byss Defence Fleet.

The Empire-class is the the successor to the old but reliable Venator-class. The Empire needed vessels with better fighter complement for large scale operations. The Revenge class was built for this role, but was too expensive to build and too costly to maintain in the numbers Imperial Command wanted. Thus the Empire-class was born. The ship acted as support for large squadrons and as flagships for smaller battlegroups. Never deployed without protection, the Empire was often paired with two Victory II-class Star Destroyers and various other smaller escorts.
DesignStar Destroyer Pics
Imperial I-class Star Destroyers were dry docked, and the forward two hundred meters were removed to make way for a large forward multi-level hangar. Extra shielding is added to the forward section, as well as massive reinforced mesh dura-steel hanger doors. The forward third of the ship now houses the massive bay. The ventral amidships docking bay was removed, adding ventral weapons batteries and a secondary reactor. The eight heavy quad barbettes are retained, as are the two rim mounted heavy double heavy cannons. A second triple heavy turret was added to the dorsal spine just forward of the original triple heavy turret. One additional triple heavy turret replaced the ventral docking bay. Ten heavy ion cannons were placed on the prow, five to each flanking rim. Turbolasers and quad lasers line the ventral and dorsal edge of the port and starboard rim. Two full starfighter wings are supported as well as gunboats, shuttles, transports, barges, and even corvettes can dock in the lower bay for the forward hanger.
History
The Empire-class was designed as a replacement for the Venators being used as fleet carriers. Shortly after the battle of Yavin, the need for better fighters was paramount. The new rebel X-wing was far superior to the TIE fighter, and won most battles in which they faced each other. New fighter designs had been rushed to the front of R&D's list but a solution had to be found for the problem at the time. The answer came in many forms. Escort Carriers were developed, but these could not take on capital ships well. The large Revenge Heavy Carriers were already in service, but too few and were too expensive to be a solution. The ISD Empire was damaged in a battle with rebel forces having a large section of her prow destroyed. Imperial engineers cut away the damage and modified the ship to fit the dual roll of command and support carrier.

So, as one of my many musings, I had a thought about why the Imperial-class was as vaunted as it was by the Imperial Navy. obviously her weapons-loadout, size, and physical dimensions are sufficient enough to deal with most of the enemies that the Galactic Empire, pre-4 ABY would deal with.
but despite her size, cost, and crew-requirements, she is still seen as the de-facto Gold Standard, to which all other Warships are compared.
To sum it up, i believe that having 2 Imperial-1 class Star Destroyers is the rough equivalent of having at least 3 smaller vessels, an Acclamator-1, Venator (1), and Victory (1 or 2.), in most respects.
Armaments: an Imperial-1 has about as much fire-power as a Victory and an Acclamator. 135 weapon emplacements of various types, compared to the 50 emplacements on the Victory-2 (used because the Missile Launchers have limited utility in terms of how long they can be used or to what purposes. you can either use them up quickly in massive salvos, or use them only a few launchers at a time, which seems rather inefficient for such a large and otherwise powerful platform) and the more defensively oriented 36 emplacements on a Acclamator, and/or the 62 emplacements on a Venator. again i dont include the torpedo launchers because of their reload issues, although i would be willing to include the Acclamator's torpedoes because she carries a hundred per launcher.
